Meet some of the movers and shakers that have helped evolve New Horizons into the highly successful IT training company that it is today.
Chief Executive Officer
A dynamic senior global leader with 20+ years of progressive executive experience optimizing operational, financial, and talent development infrastructures. Mikell joined New Horizons on January 2, 2018 and became CEO on March 29th.
Previous roles include CEO of a group of Advanced Learning Technology companies (Adayana, Vertex and Triple Impact) which were ultimately sold to a large technology services company in 2017; President of CTI, the world’s largest in-person coach training school and leader development firm; and President and COO of Roosevelt Thomas Consulting & Training (RTCT), a diversity management consulting and training organization. In addition, Mikell held progressively responsible roles during her thirteen years with Franklin Covey, a global provider of learning and performance solutions. During her tenure, she transformed international sales and operations into a critical contributor and successful new business model for the company. In her last few years she served as President and helped lead the organization through a market repositioning to strengthen their position for years to come.
Mikell was featured in the book Global Explorers, The Next Generation of Leaders, which recognized her entrepreneurial spirit and successful global achievements. Originally from Toronto, she received a degree in Business Management at Sheridan and a BA in Sociology at the University of Western Ontario.
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
With an extensive career at New Horizons, Ms. Morris is a proven senior leader with a solid reputation in the industry. Ms. Morris has held various executive and leadership roles in enterprise and gov’t sales, business development, product and partner management, operations, marketing, and global strategies. Ms. Morris is internationally recognized for her contributions to the industry. She maintains close relationships with franchisees and IT/enterprise channels to provide strategic guidance around forward-looking collaboration and growth opportunities in areas such as IT Education, Professional Development, Professional Services, and Workforce Education. To help steer the industry past the ongoing challenges associated with digital transformation, marketplace disruption, and skills gap, Ms. Morris has been invited to serve on several IT industry and education advisory groups to provide leadership and vision.
Group Vice President, International Operations and Franchise Development
Michael Smith was promoted to Group Vice President of International Franchise Operations in January 2018 after leading operations in EMEA & APAC since January 2015. Prior to that time, Mr. Smith worked in a number of Regional leadership positions for the Franchisor as well as leading the New Horizons U.K franchise business prior to its sale in 2007. Before focusing on the Learning and Development space in 1996, Mr. Smith spent more than 10 years in leadership roles with a large international transport organization. He has a deep IT industry product knowledge and specializes in the formation, management and development of salesforces in this sector. Mr. Smith is very experienced at developing business relationships around the globe and has a deep understanding of how cultural differences impact businesses.
Jesse Bryan “Chip” Nelson
Vice President, North American Franchise Operations
Mr. Nelson joined New Horizons Worldwide, Inc. as Vice President of Consumer Operations in June, 2014 and was promoted to Vice President of North American Franchise Operations in August, 2016 based out of our Anaheim, California office. Prior to this, Mr. Nelson worked with New Horizons Franchisee 5PE as Senior Vice President of Consumer Sales and Operations. Before this position, Mr. Nelson held the title of Owner and CEO at AllPoint Electrical and Data, Inc. from April, 2004 until August, 2013. Mr. Nelson began his experience with New Horizons in August, 1993 as an instructor until 2004 where he held the position of Regional Vice President – Pacific of Company-owned locations.
Timothy A. Kleczka
Vice President International Operations
Mr. Kleczka joined New Horizons as Vice President, International Operations on January 1, 2019. Mr. Kleczka is a franchise operations and development executive with more than 20 years of experience in international franchise operations and new market development working with B2C and B2B business models, SAAS and education sectors, publicly traded and privately-owned corporations.
His operations expertise encompasses establishing new international corporate operations for U.S. companies in foreign markets such as New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, and the creation of strategic plans, followed by in-region tactical execution. Mr. Kleczka’s development experience incorporates a strategic market identification process, a digital and consultative lead generation strategy, followed by lead conversion and new country launch plans. Mr. Kleczka currently works out of our Asia Pacific Hong Kong office.
Vice President North America Franchise Development
Mike Steed is a seasoned franchise system executive. Mike brings with him decades of franchising experience with focus in the areas of marketing, operations, business development, and leadership. Mike has worked with many well-known brands over his three decades in the franchise arena, including Chevron, Shell, Starbucks, and most recently, Mathnasium, where he lead the U.S. business for the past few years.
